Happy Birthday, Kyle!
Yesterday Kyle turned double digits! I love the time of year for his birthday. This year we made witches hats. They were so cute and fun to make! (He wouldn't appreciate me calling them cute!) They are cookies dipped in chocolate with an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate with sprinkles. Inside the cone you put candy. The class loved them! I was at lunch with my classes and when Kyle's class came in the lunchroom, they all came and gave me a hug!
His big surprise was in the afternoon when he got home from school. He has been wanting kittens for so long. I picked up three from a mom from school. All three kids were quite excited about them! Kate loves them, too, but they don't love her yet!

Lantern Tours
Carlin's fiddlers group played the past two weekends in the Lantern Tours. Kyle's fourth grade class took a field trip there one evening. They re-enact history of the area. We had fun when Kyle's group went through on the tour--he was wearing a red coat and started a battle! He loved it!
Carlin played the violin in the "tavern". Their costumes were loaned to them by the museum.

Treasure Find! (What is it?!)
This past weekend we came across a real find! A "kraut cutter"! Okay--I know most people our age don't get too excited about such a find, but we have spent enough time cutting cabbage with the food processor and by hand to know how much time this "ole timer" will save!! All we have to do is place the cabbage in the box and slide it back and forth over the blades! Can't wait to try it out--next year!
Not many make the good ole' kraut in the crocks either, but when one marries into a family that make pierogies then one must learn to make sauerkraut! (Pierogies will be another entry on another day)

Peppers, Anyone?!!!!!
I thought I would start picking what was left for peppers in the garden. So far I've made it through about half of the habaneros, mild banana peppers, cayenne, and sweet green peppers. I haven't even started on the hot banana peppers and about three other kind that I can't remember the names of. I've done enough chopping and slicing to last me for quite a while, but still have loads in the garden.
The principal at Kyle's school asked if I would consider making salsa to sell at school events. I think we have enough I could almost do that--but I can't imagine how many days that would take!!!
My hands feel hot enough tonight! I even wore gloves, but the heat still works its way inside!

Fall At Last!
I'm loving the season change! Except for last weeks temperatures that took us almost to 90 again. I've had fun decorating the china hutch this year. I got some straw bales (for the dog) and put them on the porch with some mums. I did give in and put some straw in the dog house for Kate. Now she doesn't bother running out to bark at us when we go out to the bus stop!
