We should be able to enjoy a few cherry pies this year. The boys and I picked three dishpans full. They were dwarf cherry trees and the branches were dragging on the ground from the weight. Very tasty though!
Wow! You guys get *MORE* of everything up there!! We're picking cherries today--2 dwarf trees, quite a few, but looks like the birds have been busy too, and alot of blighted ones, I think probably from the hail. Hopefully I'll get "enough" tho. Will probably take all week to pick tho, they aren't all ripe yet.
I just pit them and freeze them. Sometimes I add just a bit of lemon juice. I did stir up six bags for pies. I added all the ingredients and froze it all. Don't know if that's how I'm supposed to do it, but we'll see!
Never mind him...We'll all eat what he doesn't anyway :*)!!! I'm sending my "crew" out to pick again today. They're groaning...they think they share Jim's opinion. The only thing is, they wouldn't appreciate picking bing cherries any more!! However, I know when the cobblers, jam & pies come out around here, it'll be a different story. They'll gobble them up without complaining!!
I wasn't planning on picking more either until I saw how many are loaded on our trees. The boys had too much computer time on their hands so they are out picking now. I'll just freeze these until I get back from MN then try making jam. How do you make yours, Maxine? Jim--feel free to pass the pie my way anytime!
Today's cherries were much better than Mondays. Still dealing with some worms...hmmm wonder what's worse, pesticides or worms? It sure takes alot of extra time to examine each cherry! I use the food chopper to chop for jam, and use the receipe either in the "blue book" (ball caning) or on the pectin box.
Hey now! I never said I didn't like picking! My aunt Virginia had a bing cherry tree and she couldn't keep me out of it! :) But honestly, I really do not like cherry stuff. Pie, jam, yogurt, cheese cake, etc. =P No offense to you Lori! :)

Hey Lori, how did you freeze them?

Thanks! I want some for jam, so don't want to add sugar, but wasn't sure if that would work.
THAT'S another thing I miss about Michigan...
Beautiful photos!
Ugh. The only cherry worth the fertilizer to grow it is a Bing Cherry! lol And pie is SO overrated! ;) lol
