275 Jars Of Canning
Tis the season--but I think we are finally finished with canning! Unless we come across something else!
We have finished up with 175 pints of salsa (we split with Warren's), 50 quart of tomato soup, 25 quart of grape juice, and 25 quart of tomato juice. I think we might make it through the winter!
Most of it was fun except I ended up with poison ivy and poison oak from grape picking! I went in for my second dose of a shot for poison ivy today. The first one didn't seem to do the trick so hopefully this one does the trick!
Kyle's school is trying to talk us into selling the salsa--sorry, but I don't think I want to part with it! Just think--Wayne could have a job on the side--making salsa!!

Alabama
Wayne worked in Alabama since Easter weekend. After our trip to Wisconsin we went on to Minnesota to Wayne's folks. The kids stayed at Grandma and Grandpa Huisman's and I got to go to Alabama with Wayne for two weeks. Now when he travels down there I can picture where he is.
While we were down there we got to go to Pensacola Beach. It was the most beautiful sand I have ever seen! So white and powder soft! Storm clouds came in and changed everything to gray. We got to enjoy it for a while anyway.
We got to tour Montgomery, too. The house is the first (and only) Confederate White House. The trees are gorgeous down there. Lots of crepe myrtles and magnolias.

Salsa Makin'
We are still loving our new kitchen! All summer we were looking forward to canning season, just to make sure everything still worked out great in it! We used every inch of it, but it was so much easier to work in compared to our old kitchen. We even put the pot filler to use--it was installed so it would go over the top of our tallest canner.
Warren's came down and it was definitely an all day project. While we were cutting up tomatoes we put all the juice in the turkey fryers and cooked all that down. We had two turkey fryers going outside.
The kids had fun outside while the adults had fun inside. They walked over to the dairy and had ice cream. Lauren even learned how to drive the 4-wheeler. Carlin said he's staying off the road when she gets her learners permit!!
By the end of the day we had 175 pints of salsa!
This last week while Brenda was here we made 50 quarts of tomato soup. The boys took turns cranking the juicer. It was fun watching Kyle--he talked about as fast as he cranked. We used the muck bucket once again and had 12 gallons of juice in it! It is a fun family project!
